Caroline Butler, M.D., is a health care provider who works to build a caring and communicative relationship with her patients to provide the best surgical care she can. "I believe that transparency and open communication are key in the doctor-patient relationship," she says. "The approach to health care should be collaborative." Inspired by her personal life experiences with illness, Dr. Butler recognizes the effect of illness and injury on patients. "My interactions with my family and patients as a trauma surgeon helped me shape my approach to patient care from a human perspective," she says. Originally from Bethesda, Maryland, Dr. Butler earned her medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. After completing her general surgery residency at Georgetown University and her fellowship in trauma and surgical critical care at the University of Miami, Dr. Butler came to Tucson to be closer to her family and found herself staying for the sunshine, friendly people, good food and lack of traffic.
