Allison Held, M.D., is a family medicine doctor who believes in forming partnerships with her patients. "I enjoy getting to know my patients over time to develop trusting and healing relationships," she said. "I try to learn what their baseline is and approach it as a partnership to work together toward their best health." Dr. Held’s experience as a patient has helped her understand how vulnerable an anxious people might feel in medical settings, giving her a greater sense of empathy. "Understanding this, I try to always be patient and kind with patients," she said. Dr. Held always loved science and math in school and wanted a career that would involve continuous learning. After trying her hand in pharmaceutical research, she decided she wanted to help people live healthier lives and chose to pursue a medical career. Having grown up in the upper Midwest, Dr. Held went to college at the University of Wisconsin, Madison and majored in microbiology. After working in research for a few years, she continued her education at New York University School of Medicine where she received her medical degree. She completed residency training in family medicine at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque.
