Dr. Keith Dveirin, aka Dr. D., is an experienced pediatrician who values and appreciates the trust patients and their families have placed in him over the years.
"I especially enjoy the long-term relationships I get to make with my patients and families and seeing the kids grow up," he said. "Every day now I see the second generation of patients, the children of my former patients. I have been taking care of some of these families for over 20 years."
His experiences growing up with a divorced single mother who was an immigrant to the United States and a brother with a terminal illness has helped him understand different family structures and the impact of illness on children and families.
"I try to use these experiences every day to treat patients and families with respect and appreciation for what is going on in their lives," he said.
Dr. D. has always wanted to be a pediatrician.
"Some people go to medical school because they want to be a doctor," he said. "I went to medical school because I wanted to be a pediatrician. I knew from the beginning that’s what I wanted to do and I have never looked back."
Dr. D. grew up in California. He went to college at Stanford University and medical school at the University of California in San Francisco. He did his pediatric residency at Seattle Children’s Hospital and additional training in pediatric hematology-oncology at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center.
In 1995, he and his wife, a psychology professor, moved to Tucson and have called it home ever since.
When he is not working, Dr. D. enjoys cycling, hiking, photography, travel, visiting his daughters and spending time with his two dogs.
